Bungie preview Destiny 2: Warmind lore and new comic

Listen, it’s okay, we can talk about it. We all know Symmetra’s seen better days. She remains a fine choice for Overwatch players getting their feet wet in the game, but she hasn’t been a factor in competitive play for some time. (The less said about her state in Overwatch League, the better.) We know another rework’s on the way, and now we know quite a bit more detail on how the redesign will work.

Will we have to change our list of the best Overwatch characters? (I hope so.)

Much like Mercy before her, Symmetra’s ultimate is becoming a standard ability. Lead designer Geoff Goodman says on the Overwatch forums that the teleporter will move to the E key while Photon Barrier will become Sym’s new ult.

Team Fortress 2 had its biggest player count drop ever - do we blame bots or Fortnite?

Team Fortress 2 has been one of the most consistent games in the Steam lineup, with Steam Charts reporting around 50,000 players through their entire tracking data back through 2012. The averages have been up - to 61k - and down - to 41k - over that time, but the early parts of 2018 have seen the largest drop in TF2 history, with averages down as low as 36k in March.

It’s not surprising that TF2 would be losing players - it’s been a decade since the game launched, after all - but it is surprising to see average players drop by 15k in a single month, as they did back in February. Now players are looking for answers as to why.

Heroes of the Storm's Dark Nexus drop takes the game back to its narrative roots

Heroes of the Storm’s latest content drop, Dark Nexus, marks a new type of storytelling for the game. In a recent interview, HotS’ creative content lead, Kevin Johnson, explained why Blizzard are changing the game's narrative direction.

Speaking of storytelling, Deckard Cain is the most recent addition to Heroes of the Storm.

Good news, Remedy fans: the studio’s mysterious P7 will finally be unveiled at E3. We’ve heard rumblings about Project 7 - that’s a working title, if you hadn’t guessed - since way back in 2016, with news that the Alan Wake and Max Payne studio would drop their long-standing partnership with Microsoft to bring the game to market with a new publisher.

That'll be another one to add to our upcoming PC games list.

That new publisher is 505 Games, and they’ll showcase P7 as part of their E3 lineup, “giving press the first hands-off look” at the game. No details beyond that just yet, aside from confirmation that P7 is slated for release on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.

You control a Hero on the world map who can be levelled up and equipped with new gear, and most importantly can recruit armies to fight alongside them. This basic principle, along with the side-on hex grid of the turn-based combat itself, works just like Heroes. You go in with a bigger and better army, you generally prevail by virtue of numerical advantage.

Samsung, Hynix, and Micron accused of “a classic antitrust, price-fixing scheme”

Samsung, Hynix, and Micron are being accused of price-fixing in a lawsuit currently chasing class action status in the US. The allegations surround the companies colluding to actively limit the global supply of memory and drive up prices and revenue.

The proposed class action has been filed on behalf of US smartphone and PC users who bought hardware between 2016 and 2017, and suggests that Samsung, Hynix, and Micron have worked together to cut supply and subsequently force consumers to pay higher and higher prices for their memory technology. The three companies cover 96% of the total memory market share and therefore their actions have a massive impact on the global supply of DRAM.

The as-yet unannounced new installment in the PES series was mistakenly posted on the Hong Kong Playstation Store with an August release date and a list of new features, including the interesting line “huge addition of licensed leagues”.

Poised as we are on the brink of Brexit, it seems cannily appropriate for Creative Assembly to release a game all about the era in which England became a nation. Starting off in 878 AD, Thrones of Britannia sees Alfred the Great on a quest to push back against a Viking invasion from the North East, with the aim of unifying the land under the banner of the Anglo-Saxons. Admittedly, my clumsy first attempt at controlling the great monarch saw him perish within two years, Wessex fall into civil war, and my armies starve, but the point still stands.

Alfred’s story is just one of many you can potentially screw up: the game gives you the option to play as ten factions, each with different alliances, strengths, and objectives. For instance, you could opt to play as the Welsh king Anaraut on a mission to unite Wales, the Irish king Flann on a quest to become High King of Ireland, or the Scottish king Aed as he attempts to repel rival clans and resist the Viking invaders.

Destiny's long-awaited companion soundtrack nears official release

The over-five-year saga of Music of the Spheres may soon reach some kind of conclusion. Cozmo, community manager for Bungie, revealed on the Destiny subreddit that the long-awaited score may finally be getting an official release, promising more details soon.

Will the coming Warmind DLC save Destiny 2? 

The epic orchestral musical score, composed by Martin O’Donnell, Michael Salvatori and Paul McCartney, was originally planned to release alongside the original Destiny back in 2013. Far Cry 5 sold around 2.5 million digital units on all platforms in less than a week. Data firm Superdata release figures showing off an impressive increase over Far Cry Primal.

Superdata'a figures were only for March, so given that there were only five days left in the month when Far Cry 5 release, its numbers are particularly impressive. Devolver Digital founder says crunch is the game industry’s “dirty secret”

In an interview with GamesIndustry.biz, Devolver Digital and Good Shepherd co-founder Mike Wilson called the excessive overwork of developer crunch “shameful” and the “dirty, dirty secret that the industry has failed to address for 20 years”, which he blames on the absence of unions in the games industry.

New information about Rainbow Six Siege’s Italian operators has been leaked. Voice lines for new operators Maestro and Alibi were posted to the Rainbow Six Siege subreddit over the weekend.

While the details the new voice lines offer are reasonably scarce, they do tell us a little bit about the new operators and their personalities. Star Wars Rogue Squadron is getting a fan remake in Unreal 4

Classic Star Wars shooter Rogue Squadron is getting an Unreal Engine 4-powered makeover thanks to a group of fans lead by YouTube user Thanaclara. The project’s still not ready for release but the team already have a few levels playable, and they even plan on making new ships and levels for the game.

Volantia is a peaceful puzzler-builder from the creators of Desktop Dungeons

Desktop Dungeons was a unique little puzzle game in a roguelike costume, challenging players to use RPG mechanics as puzzle pieces to work out their way through randomly generated dungeons. Now, its developers have taken to the sky with Volantia, a game about clicking together pieces of a floating island world to create a little living city.

If you'd like to be under the sea, Subnautica can be another relaxing experience.

The launch trailer, which you can watch above, shows the hex-based pieces fitting pleasantly together, but that doesn’t give you the whole story. You’ll also be working to build an interlocking ecosystem of plants, creatures, and people who coexist on the floating formations.

There's also a tech tree to unlock, and a world to explore. Based on Desktop Dungeons' ability to surprise, there's probably more than meets the eye.
