Anthem will have a heat management system. A gameplay demo from E3 suggests that players will have to control the heat of their exo-suits, or Javelins, during flight in order to increase the amount of time they can spend in the air.
You may have noticed during Anthem footage that while Javelins are flying, a bar fills up towards the bottom of the screen. However, as the Javelin passes through a waterfall at around 45 seconds into the demo video (which you can view below) that bar empties again. On top of that, the UI in the top left corner says “cooled.”

It’s obviously not as complex a system as, say Battletech, but it looks like it’ll mkae players think about how long they can spend in the air. It’s also very possible that flight time is something players can upgrade over time - Anthem will have no lootboxes, but players will have access to cosmetic upgrades as well as having the ability to upgrade their Javelins.
