Lust for Darkness’s Lovecraftian erotica is more troubling than titillating

If the dead could blush - or play games, for that matter - famed horror writer HP Lovecraft would certainly do so after learning of the latest creation inspired by his works.

Lust for Darkness by Movie Games is an “erotic” horror game partially inspired by Lovecraftian mythology, an irony so gargantuan that, if stirred from its slumber, might consume the cosmos. After all, sex doesn’t exist in Lovecraft’s world, and judging from the absence of women, its inhabitants presumably procreate through parthenogenesis. Naughty bits were a horror too unspeakable even for Lovecraft’s dark tales, but in Lust for Darkness, we witness them re-emerge from the realms of repression in full force.
