Bad Robot, the film studio behind Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Super 8, and the rebooted Star Trek trilogy, is forming a game studio. Bad Robot has partnered with League of Legends parent company Tencent and Warner Bros Interactive and will produce indie and large-scale games for PC, console, and mobile.
The new studio will exclusively develop games by Bad Robot Games, with film studio head, sci-fi director J.J. Abrams working alongside in-house visual artists, designers, and writers. Dave Baronoff, who has led Bad Robot’s interactive content creation since 2006, will head up the games division. Baronoff has previously worked on branded titles from the Cloverfield franchise, and is currently working with Fortnite developer Epic Games, as well as Tencent, on action strategy game Spyjinx.
With Portal and Half-Life movies both in development, why not check out a list of some more of the best FPS games?
In a statement via The Hollywood Reporter, Abrams said “I’m a massive games fan, and increasingly envious of the amazing tools developers get to work with, and the worlds they get to play in.”
Abrams has been linked to various videogame projects in the past. Back in 2013, he spoke alongside Gabe Newell about the possibility of making a Portal or Half-Life movie. Back in 2016, those movies were both said to be “in development” according to Abrams.
